Steal A Tree Fruit Guide: How Fruit Production Works
How fruit is produced in Steal A Tree, the confirmed tree rarities behind fruit outputs, sapling sources, and the upgrades that turn fruit into juice income.
Fruit production in Steal A Tree is automatic once a tree matures. You steal a sapling from the active zone, plant it at your plot, and it grows on its own timer into a full tree — your first one is usually a common Apple Tree. Grown trees then shed fruit on their own: fruit drops automatically, rolls into the FRUIT JUICE VAT, and the vat converts it into juice with no player input. NPC customers queue up and buy the juice for cash, which is your entire income stream — so the number of trees planted is the number that matters most.
Confirmed trees and rarity bands
Only four tree types are documented so far, so treat this roster as incomplete until more are verified after updates:
| Tree | Rarity |
|---|---|
| Apple Tree | Common |
| Strawberry Tree | Common |
| Plum Tree | Epic |
| Pear Tree | Legendary |
Each tree's rarity implies the tier of fruit it produces, but per-fruit values, yields, and drop rates are not published anywhere reliable — don't treat any third-party numbers as fact until you can confirm them in-game.
Sapling sources and how tree type is determined
You don't choose what a sapling becomes. It grows into whatever tree it was going to be, and rarity is revealed as it grows. Saplings come in named varieties — Plains Sapling and Flowerfield Sapling both turn up as quest and playtime rewards.
Saplings are obtained by leaving the safe zone, picking one up in the active zone, and carrying it home past patrolling gnomes. If a gnome catches you mid-carry, the sapling is gone with no partial credit, so plan your route before you grab one. The game is also generous with free saplings through quests and playtime rewards, so a slow start usually fixes itself.
How fruit feeds the juice economy
Fruit is the input to the game's only income stream. Once converted to juice, three plot upgrade tracks change what that fruit is worth:
- Juice / Customer raises how much juice each NPC buys per visit (2.0x at 25,000 cash; 3.0x at 125,000 cash).
- Juice Income multiplies what that juice is worth (1.1x at 10,000 cash).
- Expand Plot adds planting spots, raising how many producing trees — and thus how much fruit — you can support (first expansion 15,000 cash; second expansion 150,000 cash).
The fruit loop as the game frames it
The developer's official description spells out the pipeline directly: steal trees from gnomes, grow trees to collect rare fruit, turn fruit into juice for money, and discover rare fruits and mutations while working toward completing the entire Index. Fruit collection and the fruit Index are core progression goals, not side content — though rare fruit specifics and mutation interactions aren't yet documented in detail.
