Steal A Tree Areas Guide: Player Plot, Safe Zone, and Active Zone

A current reference to Steal A Tree's three core areas — what the Player Plot, Safe Zone, and Active Zone do, and how the safe-zone boundary determines when a stealing run gets risky.

Steal A Tree is organized around three functional areas: your Player Plot, a protected Safe Zone around it, and an Active Zone where saplings are taken. The core loop runs between them — leave your base through the safe-zone exit, pick up a sapling in the Active Zone, carry it home, equip it from your hotbar, and plant it in an empty farm slot. Trees grow on their own, drop fruit into the juice vat, and NPC customers buy the juice for cash. A dashed white line walks new players through the first run and isn't needed afterward.

Safe Zone

The area marked SAFE ZONE is fully protective: nothing inside can touch you, but nothing inside can be stolen either. That boundary rule defines when risk begins — a stealing run only starts the moment you cross out of the safe zone. Inside, you're safe; outside, you become a target as soon as you're visibly carrying a sapling.

Active Zone

Saplings are picked up in the Active Zone, and once picked up you carry them visibly — which is what makes you a target on the way home. Gnomes patrol this zone and only turn hostile while you're holding a stolen sapling. If a gnome catches you mid-carry, you're knocked down and the sapling is lost entirely: no partial credit and nothing to recover.

Your counter is the speed stat. A higher speed lets you outrun patrols, and every trail and treadmill purchase feeds into it. A Bear Trap and a Bat also appear as usable hotbar items alongside saplings.

Player Plot

The Player Plot is where everything comes together. Its functions:

  • Planting: stolen saplings are equipped from the hotbar and planted in empty farm slots; trees mature on their own timers (a first tree is usually a common Apple Tree).
  • Juice production: grown trees drop fruit automatically into the FRUIT JUICE VAT, which converts it to juice; NPC customers queue and buy juice for cash — your entire income stream.
  • Treadmill training: standing on the treadmill passively raises your speed stat. Tiers are Wooden (starting), Iron (50,000 cash), and Golden (500,000 cash).
  • Three upgrade tracks: Expand Plot adds planting spots (first expansion 15,000 cash, second 150,000), Juice / Customer raises juice per visit (2.0x at 25,000; 3.0x at 125,000), and Juice Income multiplies juice value (1.1x at 10,000).
  • Balance rule: expand the plot roughly in step with the saplings you bring home — expanding with no saplings, or stockpiling saplings with no slots, wastes resources.

Shops and facilities

Four shops sit off the main menu: the Trail Shop sells speed-multiplier trails (Grey 1.5x at 1K, Green 2x at 25K, Purple 2.5x at 100K cash), the Gear Shop stocks tools such as a Shovel for 1,000 cash, and the Pet Shop and Ticket Shop round out the set, with the Ticket Shop gating stock behind its own requirements rather than plain cash. Free income — daily rewards, playtime rewards (cash, speed, saplings), and numbered quest chains — is also claimed from menus rather than from world positions. The in-world placement of these shops hasn't been established, so don't expect to find them as landmarks between zones.

For full tree-stealing execution and shop inventories, the dedicated mechanics pages cover those in depth.

Map-wide conditions

A red sky event rolls through servers periodically, changing the lighting across the map while playtime rewards continue accruing normally. It's the only map-wide environmental change reported, and its effect on rewards is described as cosmetic.

One caveat on navigation: zone boundaries and facility placement can shift after map updates, so recheck them in-game if anything on this page stops matching what you see.
