Steal A Tree Speed Guide: How to Get Faster
How the Speed stat works in Steal A Tree, treadmill training tiers, trail speed multipliers, free Steps from codes, and when spending on speed is worth it.
Speed in Steal A Tree solves one problem: gnomes. Gnomes patrol the active zone and only chase you while you are carrying a stolen sapling — if one catches you mid-carry, you're knocked down and the sapling is gone with no recovery. Speed is a real stat number that grows over time, and a higher value lets you outrun a patrol instead of hoping it ignores you. Extra speed helps you reach a gnome tree, lift it, and get home before a patrolling gnome catches you.
How to train speed: the treadmill
Running on the treadmill on your plot raises your speed stat. It's passive — you stand on it and let the stat climb while your trees keep producing juice in the background, which makes it worth doing between steal runs rather than instead of them. The treadmill is upgradeable, and each tier trains you more efficiently.
| Treadmill | Cost |
|---|---|
| Wooden Treadmill | Starting tier |
| Iron Treadmill | 50,000 cash |
| Golden Treadmill | 500,000 cash |
Per-tier training rates aren't currently documented, so treat higher tiers as "faster training" rather than a known multiplier.
Trail speed multipliers
Trails are the other half of the speed equation, bought from the Trail Shop. They apply a flat multiplier, making them the fastest fix for a run that keeps ending in a gnome tackle.
| Trail | Rarity | Effect | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grey Trail | Common | 1.5x Speed | 1K cash |
| Green Trail | Rare | 2x Speed | 25K cash |
| Purple Trail | Epic | 2.5x Speed | 100K cash |
Free speed: playtime rewards and Steps codes
Speed also arrives without spending cash. Playtime rewards tick over as you stay in the server and pay out cash, speed, and saplings. Promo codes add Steps, which feed the treadmill: extra Steps mean extra speed and let you train sooner, cutting the slow early walk. As of a September 2026 refresh, the working code Welcome grants 1k Steps — redeem it via the Shop button, using the code box at the bottom of that menu. No codes had expired at that time, but code availability changes, so check in-game.
When to spend on speed
The working rhythm is: steal, plant, let the juice vat sell, then put cash into whichever side of the loop is holding you back. If gnomes keep taking your saplings, buy speed; if your farm is full and the queue never stops, expand instead. The game is generous with free saplings, so a slow start usually fixes itself well before the Golden Treadmill is affordable. Trails are the fastest way to fix a run that keeps ending in a gnome tackle, while treadmill training is the passive background option to run between steals.
Note that no published data confirms a specific speed value that guarantees escaping a gnome patrol or any speed cap — test your own speed against patrols in-game before planning runs around a number.
