Steal A Tree Guide: Core Gameplay Loop Explained (Steal, Grow, Juice, Upgrade)

Learn the Steal A Tree core loop: steal saplings, grow trees, sell juice for cash, train speed on the treadmill, and buy your first upgrades — a complete first-session walkthrough.

Steal A Tree runs on one repeating errand: leave your safe zone, grab a sapling that isn't yours, sprint home before a gnome flattens you, and plant it. Everything else — speed training, trails, plot expansions, juice multipliers — exists to make that errand faster and more profitable. The game's own description sums up the phases: steal trees from gnomes, grow trees to collect rare fruit, turn fruit into juice to gain money, upgrade your base and treadmill, train for speed, and discover rare fruits and mutations, all toward building a fruit empire and completing the Index.

This guide walks you through your first full loop, from the first steal run through your first upgrades, plus shops, free rewards, and code redemption.

Your first tree-stealing run, step by step

A dashed white line on the ground walks you through the first run, and the tutorial prompts spell out the sequence in order. Once you've done it once, you never need the line again.

  1. Leave your base through the safe-zone exit. Inside the area marked SAFE ZONE nothing can touch you, but nothing can be stolen either, so the run only starts when you cross the boundary.
  2. Find a sapling in the active zone and pick it up. You're carrying it visibly at this point, which is exactly what makes you a target on the way home.
  3. Run the sapling back to your plot, equip it from your hotbar, and plant it in an empty farm slot. It matures on its own timer into a full tree — your first one is usually a common Apple Tree.
  4. Wait for fruit to drop. Grown trees shed fruit automatically, it rolls into the FRUIT JUICE VAT, and the vat converts it into juice with no input from you.
  5. Let the NPC line do the work. Customers walk up and buy juice, and each sale pays out cash. This is your entire income stream, so the number of trees you have planted is the number that matters most.

Gnomes: the only thing that can end a run

Gnomes patrol the active zone and they only care about you when you're holding a stolen sapling. If one catches you mid-carry, you get knocked down and the sapling is gone — no partial credit and no dropped item to scoop back up. The counter is speed, not skill: your speed stat is a real number you grow over time, and a higher one lets you outrun a patrol instead of praying it looks the other way. Every trail and treadmill purchase in the game feeds into this single problem. Note that a Bear Trap and a Bat show up as usable hotbar items alongside your saplings, so your inventory isn't limited to what you plant.

Treadmill training and trails (speed upgrades)

Running on the treadmill on your plot raises your speed stat. It's passive — you stand on it and let the stat climb while your trees keep producing juice in the background, which is why it's worth doing between steal runs rather than instead of them. The treadmill itself is upgradeable; you start on the Wooden Treadmill.

Iron Treadmill50,000 cash
Golden Treadmill500,000 cash

Trails are the other half of the speed equation, bought from the Trail Shop. They apply a flat multiplier, so they're the fastest way to fix a run that keeps ending in a gnome tackle.

Cost and tier figures come from a dated third-party guide (September 11, 2026), so recheck them in-game after balance updates.

Plot upgrade tracks and how to sequence them

Your plot has three upgrade tracks that do genuinely different jobs. Expand Plot adds planting spots, which raises your ceiling. Juice / Customer raises how much juice each NPC buys per visit, and Juice Income multiplies what that juice is worth.

UpgradeExample tierCost
Juice / Customer2.0x25,000 cash
Juice / Customer3.0x125,000 cash
Juice Income1.1x10,000 cash
Expand PlotFirst expansion15,000 cash

Expanding the plot before you have saplings waiting is wasted money, and stockpiling saplings you can't plant is wasted running. Keep the two roughly in step: expand when you're bringing home trees you have nowhere to put. As a rhythm: if gnomes keep taking your saplings, buy speed; if your farm is full and the queue never stops, expand.

Trees, rarities, and what you plant

You don't choose what a sapling becomes. It grows into whatever tree it was going to be, and rarity is revealed on the way up. Saplings come in named varieties — Plains Sapling and Flowerfield Sapling both turn up as quest and playtime rewards — and the resulting trees span every rarity band.

Shops and free rewards

Four shops sit off the main menu. The Trail Shop sells speed multipliers. The Gear Shop stocks tools — a Shovel runs 1,000 cash. The Pet Shop and Ticket Shop round out the set, with the Ticket Shop gating its stock behind its own requirements rather than plain cash.

Free income comes from three places, and all of it is worth claiming the moment it lights up:

  • Daily rewards start at Day 1 on your first login.
  • Playtime rewards tick over as you stay in the server and pay out cash, speed, and saplings.
  • Quests run in numbered chains you'll clear passively: Coin Collector 1–3 (cash milestones), Juice Seller 1–3 (juice sold to customers), Upgrade Master 1–2 (plot and treadmill upgrades purchased), Plains Sapling Hunter and Flowerfield Sapling Hunter (saplings stolen by type).

A red sky event also rolls through servers periodically, changing the map lighting while playtime rewards continue to accrue normally.

Redeeming codes

A code-redemption box exists inside the Shop menu. As of September 2026, the working code reported was Welcome — 1k Steps, with no codes expired at that date. To redeem:

  1. Open Steal A Tree on Roblox and wait until your base loads.
  2. Look for the Shop button on your screen.
  3. Tap it and find the code box at the very bottom.
  4. Type the code exactly as written.

Free Steps matter because extra Steps mean extra speed, which lets you reach a tree, grab it, and get home before being cut off. New codes surface primarily in the official Discord server.

What to pursue next

Once the basic loop clicks, deeper systems sit on top of it: rare fruits and mutations, pets from the Pet Shop, quest chains, and the Index. Those reward dedicated attention once your income stream is steady — your trees, speed stat, and plot are the foundation everything else builds on.
